CHEMOSYNTHESIS
Chemosynthesis is the production of organic compounds using chemical reaction to provide an energy source, this is how many smaller organisms have adapted to live without the use of photosynthesis. By living next to or near hydrothermal vents they can use chemicals as their energy instead of photosynthesis, using this to their advantage in the darkness of the deep ocean. The organisms such as tubeworms and bacteria use the Hydrogen sulphide and Methane to produce glucose and Carbon dioxide to use as a food source.
Living in this extreme environment means adapting to life without light and photosynthesis to make food sources so they have become very specialised in their adaptations becoming chemosynthetic organisms.
